1997 Australia 1 oz Gold Lunar Ox MS-69 NGC (Series I)

1.0000 troy oz .9999 1997 MS-69 (NGC)

Introduced in 1997, this Australian legal tender coin represents the second entry in the initial twelve-coin Lunar Series. Struck from one troy ounce of highly pure 0.9999 fine gold, this issue holds a special place for collectors because it represents the lowest mintage of the entire series, with only 13,709 pieces produced. This particular specimen is certified in a near-perfect Mint State 69 grade. The reverse side displays a detailed rendering of a large ox glancing back over its shoulder, a design created by Jovan Radanovich. Accompanying the animal is the traditional Chinese character representing the ox. On the obverse, the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf is featured. The front also bears inscriptions indicating the country of origin, the face value of 100 Dollars, the year 1997, and the weight and purity of the gold content.
